ofra kutz - ceramics art & designer
I live and create in my own studio in Kfar Saba - Israel
My work is exhibited in galleries and museums around the world and in private collections.
In my recent body of work, Landscape from Genesis, I explore an intimate encounter with the desert landscape, where wind, water, and time shape ancient stone and preserve the memory of the earth.
During my journeys through the desert, I photograph its changing forms—layered rock, weathered surfaces, stones, and sand. These observations become the starting point for my ceramic sculptures, transforming fleeting moments into enduring material forms.
I have developed a personal material language by combining raw clay, volcanic and crackle glazes, exposed textures, porcelain, and gold luster. During firing, the surfaces shrink, crack, and bubble, echoing the geological processes that have shaped the landscape over millennia.
Through these material transformations, I seek a balance between fragility and strength, order and chance. Some works rise like eroded cliffs, while others resemble fragments unearthed from the desert floor, inviting reflection on the relationship between nature, time, and memory.
